Parenting support might include attending a parenting course, finding out about local services available to them, information about their child starting primary or high school and also opportunities to take part in family learning activities, where children and parents can learn together. To help provide this support to parents at or through school we are looking to appoint 8 Parent Support Advisors to work across Tameside. Initially line managed by the Children's Centre Co-ordinator, the post holder will work with parents from up to 3 schools. The focus of the work is very much upon prevention and helping to identify and support parents who would benefit from some additional short term support. You will . Have considerable experience of proactively working with and supporting parents . Experience of delivering parenting courses . Recognise and value the important role that parents and carers have in their child's learning and development . Be able to form positive relationships with parents and relate to parents in an empathetic manner . Have the ability to provide information and advice in an impartial and non-judgemental manner . Be able work in partnership with others to ensure the best outcomes for parents and their families You will be required to work flexibly to meet parents' needs and therefore may be required to work early in the morning, evenings and some weekends. The posts are currently on a fixed term contract (or secondment on agreement with your existing employer) until August 2009. Contracts maybe extended until August 2010 subject to evaluation and notification of future funding.
