Contract: Industry sectors:Secretarial & AdministrationDirectorate: Communications Department Ref: 182/08 You will obtain essential information from members of the public contacting the Police via telephony systems in an efficient and courteous manner ensuring accurate identification of caller details, nature of incident and location. You will evaluate the necessity of a police response in line with the Durham Constabulary Graded Response Policy. Where appropriate you will also provide members of the public with advice and direction. Good interpersonal skills are essential for these posts, together with the ability to obtain relevant information and relay concise messages accurately. You must have at least 1 year's previous customer service experience. Enhanced computer/keyboard skills e.g. use of database systems where accuracy is important and the ability to type at 25 w.p.m. are also essential. Successful applicants will be required to work a targeted shift pattern for which a shift allowance of 12.5% is payable along with a weekend working allowance of 14.3% Applicants must have 4 'O' levels/ GCSE's including English Language or Literature and Mathematics (Grade A B or C). Applicants not in possession of these qualifications will be required to undertake the Personnel Test Battery Series and must achieve a pass in all three papers. In addition, applicants will also be required to sit 25 wpm keying and listening test. Applications are welcomed from both part - time and full - time applicants.
