This position is based from our £10m purpose-built CPW Networks, Head Office and Network Operations Centre, at Northbank House, Irlam, Manchester. Overall Purpose of the position of Graduate Database Developer is to contribute to the development of a suite of database hosted applications for order processing, billing and reporting purposes.Role ResponsibilitiesDevelop resilient, high-performance database solutions that conform to existing company's systems.Take responsibility and ownership of project based tasks focusing on product development.Diagnose technical issues and contribute to the process of remedy.Know HowThe job holder will be qualified to degree level, preferably within an IT related field, though a scientific/maths/engineering graduate may be considered with appropriate work experience and enthusiasm for the role.Prior experience in a commercial computing environment would be advantageous.Some experience of coding and database design would be an advantage, especially knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 7, 2000 or 2005. Knowledge of Oracle/Access would also be of benefit.Communication (regular contacts/networking within role)The role will require excellent communication skills as the post holder will be expected to provide support to internal customers on technical issues.Direction of WorkThe jobholder will report to the Database Development Manager and be expected to provide up to date reports on a regular basis. There will be a high degree of autonomy and self management of owned projects in this role. They will also be expected to provide support on any technical issues to internal customers.Decision Making & AccountabilitiesThere is a high degree of autonomy in this role as the job holder will 'own' their own projects. They will also have a clear understanding of the escalation process to ensure that issues are remedied at the correct level. Overall accountability will be to the Database Development Manager, and to both internal and external customers.ChallengesThe key challenge in this role will be the wide variety of projects that the job holder will be involved in. Effective multitasking in a fast paced environment will be essential. The ability to absorb and retain information with a meticulous eye for detail will also be required.
