Job PurposeThe Operational Product Managers provide for the day to day technical and commercial health of a full engineering product portfolio. This involves ensuring the launched products operationally run smoothly by resolving product issues, service the product stakeholders needs, chairing Product Operations meetings, owning overall responsibility for the Industry Forum process and ensuring continuous improvement. Individual Operational Product Managers will specialize in distinct product areas dependent on skills and existing knowledge. Key Opal products areas are LLU, WLR/CPS, IP Stream, Business products (IVR, Replay MVNO etc.)Job SpecificationAs an Operational Product Manager you will be expected to:Be the central point of contact for all Operational issues associated to a particular product. They will be expected to follow the issues through to successful resolution.Provide day-to-day administrative and management support for Product activities with a focus in one or more of the following: change control, quality management, risk and issue management, Product knowledge and reporting (for example, within Programme Board meetings).Gather, and evaluate information to reach sound decisions and provide complete and accurate presentations or reports.Understand current and future business requirements.Identify, track and evaluate the realization of business benefits and monitor and maximize benefits on an ongoing basis.Directly drive the ongoing improvement of the product and all the associated processes from provisioning to ongoing maintenance.Understand new business requirements, translate and present them in a structured format and articulate them to key stakeholders.Understand the cost/benefit assumptions in relation to the product. This will include appraisal of available options or proposals for change to make recommendations on the most feasible one through a Business Case.Translate complex information including business requirements and produce detailed summaries, including highlight reports.Assess the impact and implications of decisions on other parts of the organisation including people, process and technology and determine the effects of your own and others' work within this broad context.Initiate processes to collate statistics of operational issues for your product. Frequency of meetings scalable to the needs of the product.Manage the Industry Forum Management Process which involves; Attending industry forums & documenting findings, Carry out impact analysis of industry changes, chair internal industry forums, deliver training to appropriate group teams for industry changes found to impact them.Act as a Product Knowledge Centre which involves; Document all Product Knowledge in a concise and logical way to allow Operational Product Management and external teams to share as a learning resource, be able to deliver small scale training of products (One to One or small group) to new starters or training gaps identified by external teams or yourself in your regular Operational Product performance assessments.Have a working knowledge of the Project Lifecycle as they become increasingly involved through development to launch and project closure.Identify and evaluate likely risks and obstacles and design, operate and monitor systems to mitigate them. Manage business continuityIdentify, track and manage the product. Able to analyse and evaluate impact of proposed changes to the product and report findings and solutions.Establish and oversee relationships with all stakeholders. This will include identifying their requirements and concerns and managing expectations and pressures and producing a Stakeholder Communication Plan.Key SkillsTechnical knowledge:You will have a technical knowledge base that will enable you to fully understand existing products and guide how they evolve throughout the product life cycle. You will also demonstrate a commercial awareness that will enable you to balance the technical requirements of a product with the commercial needs from some of your key product stakeholders. Be able to demonstrate a big picture vision for your product in order to make accurate decisions to resolve pressing operational issues.Encouraging Innovation and Managing Change:You will enjoy challenging existing processes and introducing new approaches to make Products more manageable/support better delivery.
