Contract: Industry sectors:Accountancy Job Description The main role of Risk & Business Assurance - Retail and Distribution (R&BA), is to provide assurance over the Retail and Distribution division's internal control and risk management systems. As, the title suggests, our audit and risk remit covers the whole of the retail and distribution division, spanning 9 European markets. The department benefits from a high profile position within the organisation and is well regarded across the business. This provides opportunities for the right candidate to shape internal processes and controls and drive real business improvement. For the individual who aspires ultimately to a more senior role in financial, operational or general management at the Carphone Warehouse (CPW), there could be no better foundation than the experience and knowledge you will gain with R&BA. There have been numerous examples in the last couple of years of how successful this transition can be. Responsibilities Risk & Business Assurance is not a traditional "tick and bash", financial audit function. Although, providing assurance on the appropriateness of financial controls is an important part of what we do, we are also operationally and commercially focussed. Typical assignments might include; a risk assessment of a new business acquisition, an audit of customer management processes and controls, key controls assessment of joint ventures, fraud investigations, a review of HR joiners and leavers processes, or, a regulatory compliance audit, to name just a few examples. The dynamic, fast-growing nature of CPW means that Risk & Business Assurance always has a full and wide-ranging schedule of audit and risk assignments. This creates an environment in which motivated individuals can really thrive and develop a breadth of knowledge and skills that could not be acquired at other companies in more traditional internal audit roles. The Individual The ideal candidate would be a qualified accountant (from a recognised accounting body, i.e. ACA, ACCA, CIMA), with up to one year's post-qualified experience. As a Senior Auditor, you should have three to four years' external audit experience working for a medium to large accounting and audit firm, or, have worked in internal audit for a FTSE 250 company. You should be familiar and comfortable with auditing the internal controls of a large organisation and be able to make appropriate recommendations for improvement. Essential criteria for the role: - Good analytical skills (a curious nature and attention to detail) - Excellent business English written skills - Strong communication and presentation skills (ability to present audit findings and recommendations to senior management confidently and concisely) - Initiative (ability to think on your feet and plan the next steps in an audit without too much "hand-holding") - Enthusiasm and commitment to producing high quality work - Good listening skills - Patience and tenacity (ability to see an audit through from start to finish and through to follow-up of actions) - Strong influencing skills - Ability to occasionally work outside of your comfort zone - Ability to travel to European countries (approximately 20-30% of the time) - The job-holder must be of "good" repute for the purpose of complying with the FSA's requirements as set out in the FSA Handbook of Rules and Guidance.
